Like a true Melbournian, I am a sucker for a good brunch! But on a Sunday morning I can also be the laziest person alive and the last thing I want to do is travel over half an hour to find good food. In 2014 all my troubles were solved when Hendriks opened its doors right around the corner in Mordialloc!
Hendriks brings all the elements of unique city dining and combines it with the local charm to bring you a truely impressive establishment. From the ever changing native flora on each table to the creative and always tasty menu, each visit feels like the first and thats exactly what sets Hendriks above the rest.
Every fortnight their specials menu changes which means there is always a new dish to try when you visit as often as I do! But if you are more a fan of the classics, never fear, they also have a seasonal all day menu that features all the favourites such as The Big One, Indo Fritters, Acai Bowl, Hotcakes & The Boys.
For those who know me personally, you will know I am a creature of habit when it comes to ordering out. I find a dish I like quickly and never stray from that order no matter how often I visit. This all changed when I was introduced to Hendriks. In my many many visits I don't think I have ever ordered the same dish twice. This is not because there isn't any dishes that I would want to order again (believe me, I would order them all again if I had the stomach space), but because there is ALWAYS a new dish added that blows my mind with its creativity and flavour combinations that I can't resist ordering something different.
My most recent visit saw me devouring Baklava French toast with honey mascarpone and rose water gel, yum! I've eaten the most decadent Cherry Ripe waffles, for breakfast of all things! In Summer refreshing Passionfruit Panna Cotta with summer fruits. And before that Wild Rice Pudding with ginger poached pear. I have even had my burger fix at Hedrick's, the options are endless!
There is one item however, that draws me in every time. I genuinely get so excited to see what flavour they've come up with each fortnight and that is the infamous Hendriks milkshake! I am actually dairy intolerant, but I can mange most dairy in moderation, milk however is my kryptonite. I just can't do more than a few sips without it upsetting my stomach. Just so I can taste each of these magnificent creations without ruining the experience for myself, I always make MrAnnabell order the shakes. I have my tolerance level worth of sips and eat the yummy toppings that he usually leaves behind. Win Win!
Some of my favourite flavours so far have been..
- Unicorn (strawberry vanilla shake with fairy floss)
- Ginger Snowman - Peanutbutter Jelly
- Coconut Block
- Showtime (salted caramel chocolate with choctop & popcorn) - The Gremlin (peppermint & chocolate)
If you are a little more health conscious than I, there are plenty of cold pressed juice, raw smoothies and healthier meal options such as acai bowls, granola, super salads and much more!
I could honestly sit here talking about how amazing Hendriks food and ambience is, but the best way to truely understand is to visit for yourself!*
